About me

Making connections, one line at a time.

Kaylie Ashton-Barnes is a figurative artist based on the Norfolk coast, whose love of charcoal and inks define most of her art pieces. She is a mother of three, an avid bookworm, and collector of words.

She believes every body tells a story and loves to represent those stories within the flowing lines of her work. Kaylie is a keen mental health advocate and often works with clients around themes of self-empowerment and self-acceptance.

Her creativity is driven by making connections, both with herself, and with others. She founded The Great Yarmouth Artists Collective to forge connections with other artists and as a way to lay down roots within the local community. She is at her happiest when helping others reconnect with themselves and their bodies through her work.

"Being creative is just who I am, it's like breathing. I couldn't imagine going through life and not painting the picture, not taking the photo, or not making the print. I have always searched for new ways of making things, new ways to express myself, and new ways to make connections with people. I find creating so grounding and a great way to process the world. I feel that ultimately connection is the most important thing. My art helps me build those, both with myself and my surroundings, and with others."

Unmasked Collection

The Unmasked Collection is all about striping back the masks we wear to fit in with the world. How to discover your true self vs the one you project out into the world to fit in. Deconstructing yourself and peeling back the layers and building yourself back up as a more comfortable, confident, authentic self.  This series focuses specifically on the masking and unmasking of late-adult diagnosed neurodivergent women, but its themes resonate with anyone who has ever had to don a mask to get by, or who struggles to connect with themselves.
